Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre

New Daycare Building in Fort Erie, ON.

The Vision

The Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre is a local non-profit organization and a community resource for families and people in all stages of life. Their mission is "To Enhance all Aspects of Native Life While Extending Friendship to the Community" and their vision was to grow the centre and develop a new daycare in their cultural learning space. This new addition would allow them to continue sharing their values, investing, and impacting their clients and community.

The Engineering

Canvas worked closely with the architect and developer to create structural design drawings for the new addition which incorporated Thermapan SIP wall panels. The SIP panel construction allowed for a more cost-effective and timely project, as the wall frames were constructed within a matter of days. The goal was to build this new addition which would be consistent with the aesthetic of the existing buildings, be energy-efficient, and result in lower life cycle costs. Since traditionalism and consistency were key, timber logs where included in the design and construction to reflect the current space.

The Results

The Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre will celebrate the grand opening of their new daycare in 2020. The unique and traditional design matched the aesthetic of the existing buildings, and the centre will soon open and welcome families into their space!
